JWL Interiors completed specialist ceiling and bulkhead works at Batley High School, helping create a modern and welcoming reception area within the school.
The project had particular significance for the team, as several members of staff, friends and family have attended the school over the years.
Our work included new MF ceilings finished with plaster and a detailed bespoke bulkhead positioned above the reception desk.
Creating a Strong First Impression
The reception area is one of the first spaces seen by pupils, parents, staff and visitors.
For this project, the design called for a clean, contemporary ceiling finish combined with a bespoke feature above the main reception desk.
The completed bulkhead helped define the reception point and gave the entrance area a more considered architectural finish.
MF Ceiling Installation
JWL Interiors installed new MF ceiling systems as part of the refurbishment.
MF ceilings use a concealed metal framework to create a smooth plastered finish. They are often specified where the design requires a seamless appearance rather than a visible suspended ceiling grid.
They can also be formed around lighting, services, changes in ceiling height and bespoke architectural details.
For Batley High School, the new ceiling provided a clean and durable finish suited to a busy education environment.
Bespoke Bulkhead Above the Reception Desk
The feature bulkhead was designed and constructed to sit above the new reception desk.
This required careful setting out to ensure the shape, proportions and lighting details worked correctly within the wider reception space.
Bespoke bulkheads can be used to:
- Define reception desks and focal points
- Integrate recessed or feature lighting
- Conceal services
- Introduce changes in ceiling height
- Add structure and visual interest to an interior
The finished detail became a central feature of the reception area rather than simply serving as a functional ceiling element.
Detailed Plaster Finish
Once the MF framework and bespoke bulkhead had been formed, the surfaces were boarded and finished with plaster.
The quality of the plaster finish was particularly important because the bulkhead incorporated lighting that would draw attention to its lines and surfaces.
Accurate installation and careful finishing helped produce the crisp, smooth appearance required for the completed design.
