JWL Interiors was appointed to deliver a specialist interior works package for a new Hugo Boss store in Manchester city centre.
The project included suspended ceilings, MF ceilings, bespoke bulkheads and plastering, supporting the creation of a high-specification retail environment for one of the world’s best-known fashion brands.
A High-Specification Retail Interior
Luxury retail fit-outs demand precision at every stage.
The ceilings, bulkheads, lighting details and finished surfaces all contribute to the way the store presents the brand and its products. In a premium retail setting, small inconsistencies can quickly become visible once lighting, displays and final finishes are installed.
For the Hugo Boss Manchester project, JWL Interiors delivered several connected interior packages as part of the wider store fit-out.
Suspended Ceiling Installation
Suspended ceilings formed part of the works package.
These systems provide a practical commercial ceiling solution by concealing wiring, ventilation and other services while allowing access for future inspection and maintenance.
Within a retail environment, the ceiling layout must coordinate carefully with:

- Air conditioning

MF Ceilings
JWL Interiors also installed MF ceiling systems.
MF ceilings use a concealed metal framework that is boarded and finished to create a smooth, seamless surface.
They are particularly well suited to luxury retail interiors where a traditional exposed ceiling grid would not provide the required appearance.
MF systems can also be shaped around recessed lighting, changes in ceiling height and other bespoke details within the store design.
Bespoke Bulkheads
The project included bespoke bulkheads constructed around the interior design.
Bulkheads can be used to:
- Define different areas of a store
- Integrate lighting
- Conceal services
- Introduce changes in ceiling level
- Frame displays
- Add architectural detail
Because these features are often positioned in prominent customer-facing areas, they require precise setting out and careful finishing.
Plastering and Finishing
Plastering formed another important part of the package.
A smooth, consistent finish was essential across the ceilings, bulkheads and surrounding surfaces to support the clean and refined appearance expected within the Hugo Boss store.
Careful finishing was particularly important around lighting details, edges and junctions, where imperfections would have been highly visible.
Coordinating with the Wider Fit-Out
Retail fit-out projects involve several specialist trades working to one programme.
The ceiling and bulkhead works needed to coordinate with lighting, ventilation, shop fittings, decoration and the wider store layout.
